Batteries produce electrons through chemical reactions.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Capacity<\/b><\/td><td>The ability of the battery or cell to supply current.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Cathode<\/b><\/td><td>An <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">electrode<\/a> through which <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electric_current\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><i>electric current<\/i><\/a> flows <i>out of<\/i> a polarized electrical device.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Cell<\/b><\/td><td>Electrochemical device capable of storing electrical energy.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Cell Jar \/ Cell Case<\/b><\/td><td>The vessel holding the cell components.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Charge Collector<\/b><\/td><td>The structure within the electrode that provides a current path to\/from the active material.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Cold Cranking Amp (CCA)<\/b><\/td><td>The rating used in the battery industry to define a battery&#8217;s ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. It is the number of amps a new, fully maintained and charged battery can deliver at 0\u00b0F for 30 seconds, while holding a voltage of at least 7.2 volts for a 12 volt battery. The higher the CCA, the more higher the starting power of the battery<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Continuous Discharge Rating (CDR)<\/strong><\/td><td>Also known as an amp limit, this is the maximum amount of current (amps) that you can continuously draw before the battery heats up to unsafe levels (typically 75&amp;degC \/ 167\u00b0F).<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Cycle<\/b><\/td><td>In a rechargeable battery a cycle consists of a charge followed by a discharge.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Dry Cell Battery<\/b><\/td><td>Batteries that can be mounted in any position because they are completely sealed &amp; won&#8217;t leak acid. Most of these bare either AGM (absorbed glass mat) or Gel type batteries.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Duty Cycle<\/b><\/td><td>The use pattern for a battery including charge, overcharge, rest and discharge.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Electrodes<\/b><\/td><td>An <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrical_conductor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">electrical conductor<\/a> used to make contact with a nonmetallic part of a <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electronic_circuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">circuit<\/a> (e.g. a <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Semiconductor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">semiconductor<\/a>, an <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrolyte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">electrolyte<\/a> or a <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vacuum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">vacuum<\/a>.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Electrolyte<\/b><\/td><td>Any substance containing free <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ions<\/a> that behaves as an <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrical_conductor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">electrically conductive<\/a> medium, usually when in a solution. Because they generally consist of ions in solution, electrolytes are also known as <b>ionic solutions<\/b>, but molten electrolytes and <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Solid_electrolytes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">solid electrolytes<\/a> are also possible.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Energy Density<\/b><\/td><td>A term used for the amount of <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Energy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">energy<\/a> stored in a given system or region of space per unit, volume, or mass.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Float<\/b><\/td><td>Maintaining a battery on a continuous, long-term charge, normally for batteries that sit unused for longer periods.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Flooded Cell<\/b><\/td><td>A cell where the electrodes are immersed in a pool of electrolyte.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Gas Recombination<\/b><\/td><td>Recycling gases formed within the cell rather then venting them to the atmosphere. This mainly pertains to sealed lead acid battery.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Leclanch\u00e9 Cell<\/b><\/td><td>A French electrical engineer chiefly remembered for his invention of the <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leclanch%C3%A9_cell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Leclanch\u00e9 cell<\/a>, one of the first modern electrical <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Battery_%28electricity%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">batteries<\/a> and the forerunner of the modern <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dry_cell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">dry cell<\/a> battery.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Life<\/b><\/td><td>The length of acceptable performance received from a battery, measured in years or in charge\/discharge cycles.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Maintenance-Free Battery<\/b><\/td><td>A battery that where no electrolytes can be added.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Open-Circuit Voltage<\/b><\/td><td>Voltage of a battery with no load applied to it.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Operating Voltage<\/b><\/td><td>Voltage of a battery under load.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Overcharge<\/b><\/td><td>The application of charge current after the battery has reached full charge.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Oxidation<\/b><\/td><td>Describes the <i>loss<\/i> of <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">electrons<\/a> or an <i>increase<\/i> in oxidation state by a <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Molecule\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">molecule<\/a>, <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Atom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">atom<\/a> or <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ion<\/a>.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Parallel<\/b><\/td><td>Interconnecting cells or batteries by joining all like terminals which doubles battery amp hours\/run time &amp; cca (cold cranking amps).<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Plates<\/b><\/td><td>Lead plates used within a battery to hold a charge.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><b>Primary Cell<\/b><\/td><td>Is any kind of <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrochemical_cell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">electrochemical cell<\/a> in which the <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrochemistry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">electrochemical<\/a> <a href=\"\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chemical_reaction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reaction<\/a> is not reversible.
